In the industry of battery people are still struggling to make the consumer educated about the different grades of VRLA Batteries. When a customer asks for VRLA batteries than it could be Gel or AGM technology, both considered as VRLA battery. 
A UPS VRLA battery supplier usually demand for an AGM battery which contains the electrolyte absorbed in a fiber glass mat separator and its quite suitable for UPS. On the other hand solar battery suppliers usually ask for Gel batteries because of a silica type gel in it to immobilize the electrolyte and it is good for solar system.

AGM batteries are less costly than gel batteries and it can work fine on the voltage of higher levels, but Gel battery requires a lower charging voltage. Gel battery usually performs well than an AGM battery. For example VRLA battery in Gel technology has longer life than in AGM technology.

There is also another category in VRLA battery which is known as Deep Cycle VRLA batteries. These batteries have thicker plates than the normal one, and they are designed to be deeply discharged regularly. Most of the deep cycle batteries can usually be discharged between 50% and 80% depending upon the construction of the battery. VRLA battery manufacturers can get more market share by providing this enhanced quality battery. Some companies in China are providing this enhance quality battery in low prices by using state of the art technology. UPS AGM batteries or for any other applications, all three categories AGM, Gel and Deep Cycle batteries are manufactured by different companies in China.
